I was just wondering who here has started unpaid maternity leave and how are you finding it? Mine starts in a few weeks runs into Christmas so trying to get a few things sorted now.

Mine starts in Nov so i be same with run up to Xmas. I’m buying pressies now never been so organised. I’m onky taking 4wks unpaid managed to get mortgage break from bank so that’s a relief

I started mine a couple of months ago, I didn’t think it would be difficult to get by. I had saved up a bit to cover rent and other expenses, but it was a little harder than I thought. It was so worth it! You just need to be more cautious of spending during it. And definitely try get as much Christmas shopping sorted before! 🙂

Taking a break from the mortgage too thankfully. So that should help. We have saved for unpaid leave but it definitely is hard to judge how much of that you should spend per month. Definitely worth it that’s for sure 🙂

I’m on unpaid leave now and it’ll be a quieter Christmas as a result but I’d prefer that than having to go back sooner

I’m 10 weeks in to my unpaid leave. I started saving as soon as I discovered I was pregnant. I calculated everything I needed to pay and paid as much as possible up front…health insurance, car ins etc. Its tight some weeks but 100% worth it being at home with my 2 under 2 and baby will be 1 by the time I go back to work. The best thing is you can cancelled your unpaid leave at any time if it’s not working out but you can’t ever get it again once you go back.

I claimed back any public holidays that would have accrued over maternity leave period but gave plenty notice to accountant this would mean I think not able to take those hols after but it meant money coming in for those few weeks
